Yes she’s at it again; the insufferable Kay Burley just hasn’t learnt her lesson and once more has managed to kick up a furore. This time she was ‘presenting’ live on location and criticised for her ‘insensitive bordering on cruel’ questioning of volunteers looking for missing 5 year old Welsh girl April Jones.
She confirmed the news that Mark Bridger had been arrested on suspicion of the murder of April Jones, this was after one of the women told her that she had not heard the latest updates on the search.
“They (the police) don’t expect to find her alive,” Burley said.
“I’m sorry to have to tell you in circumstances like this. Would you like to say anything?” This basically translates to “You’re in shock, now give us a story and help my career along, cheers!”
While Sky News has since responded saying that “As the interview unfolded, she found herself having to explain the developments and she sought to deal with it as sensitively as possible,” It’s not the first time Burley has been insincere and provocative during interviews either, take for example when she made poor Peter Andre cry or when she suggested to the ex-wife of the Suffolk strangler that if they’d had a better sex life he wouldn’t have murdered five people. Yes that really happened.
In her defence is there something else going on behind all this, something which we saw in the aftermath of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, the search for the killer of Joanna Yeates and the hunt for Raoul Moat. There’s a 24 hour rolling news feeding frenzy, and a news hysteria in which the human tragedy and heartbreak are at the core of the story is forgotten, in the search for new and exciting pictures.
Either way Kay Burley is a bit of ‘douche’, and that’s being nice. Very nice!
