“The Next Day has dawned. Neither retired nor dying, we have new Bowie. Somebody up there likes us.”
Aging rock stars usually have two options: cling to their past or wildly reinvent themselves in a bid for relevance. David Bowie, who’s releasing his 27th studio album at age 66, does neither. Instead, The Next Day sounds both true to his musical roots and remarkably contemporary.
Tomorrow I will go to the physical shops to buy a physical CD and play it again and again on my physical stereo, oh how old fashioned you say! No not old fashioned at all, I just want to hold it and keep it.
Welcome back, David.
‘The Next Day’ is out 11th March 2013 (ie. tomorrow/ie. in a matter of hours)
